The Catholic Diocese of Lubbock will celebrate its 39th Anniversary with a Patronal Feast Mass to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25 at Christ the King Cathedral in Lubbock. The Mass will serve to kick-off the diocese's 40th anniversary year to be celebrated in June 2023. Kaleidoscope of Faith Families Celebrate will follow the Mass at 1:15 p.m. at the Catholic Renewal Center. All parishioners are invited to participate in both events. Fr. Jonathan Phillips will lead a special pilgrimage June 6 for the Spanish Community to celebrate the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lubbock. The group will leave St. Michael Church at 5:30 p.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Bus transportation will be available, but space will be limited. St. Michael CCE will host Vacation Bible School, Zoomerang, June 26-30. Children grades Pre-K to 5th are invited to participate. Instruction and activities will center on Returning to the Value of Life. Daily sessions are 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Education Center. There is no cost to attend but donations will be accepted. St. Michael Catholic Church’s youth program will host a summer co-ed Youth Sand Volleyball League that is open to all youth in the Levelland community. The league will include two age divisions, which include middle school 6th to 8th grade and high school and recent graduates under age 20. Deadline to register a team is June 1. Two Parent Gatherings, hosted by the Vocations Task Force, have been scheduled to foster catechesis and spirituality for parents who have children involved in CCE, Edge, LifeTeen or Youth Confirmation. Parents are invited to participate in these two sessions that will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2022 and Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. in the Church. Sunday CCE classes have been cancelled Feb. 20 due to the Levelland ISD school holiday calendar and Feb. 27 due to the Parish Sausage Festival. CCE classes will resume Sunday, March 6.
Edge, LifeTeen and Confirmation youth activities for middle school and high school students at St. Michael Catholic Church will resume Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. CCE classes for students grades K-5 will start Sunday, Feb. 6 at 10:15 a.m. Catechetical leaders and teachers welcome students back to spring classes.
South Plains area college and high school seniors who will be attending a Catholic University this fall are invited to apply for scholarships from the Margaret Maher Scholarship Foundation. The criteria for selection includes the academic achievement and financial need of the student. Applications. The amount awarded varies from $2,000 to $8,000 each year. Due to the rapidly rising number of active COVID-19 cases in our community, the Pastoral Team has made the decision to postpone CCE, Edge, LifeTeen and Confirmation youth classes until February 2022. This decision has been made in consultation with our CCE, Edge and LifeTeen teachers. Our goal is to continue to foster a safe environment for St Michael youth activities in the current pandemic. Please pray for our youth as we suspend activities for the month of January.
